Webster's May Challenge - Part 2

I've been wanting to try a few new techniques (well, new to me) in my digital process, so thought I'd do another layout for the Webster's challenge on at the moment. I ended up doing two layouts.

The first is not my usual style, and I'm not sure I like it, but I did get to learn some techniques which was my main aim. The challenge is to use stickers on the layout using one of the four recent releases.

This layout uses all papers, stickers and elements from the New Beginnings line.

My second layout:

This used the Composition and Color line.
The template is Fizzy Pop Designs -Ninth and Bloom (modified), brushes: Anna Aspnes, and stitching: Katie Pertiet.

Webster's May Challenge - Stickers

I greatly admire the work of Emma Trout who is on the Design Team for Webster's Pages, amongst others. At the moment, she is hosting their May Challenge - using Webster's stickers (the link is also found under their community page). Part of the challenge is also having to use stickers from the last four releases. I decided to do a digital layout using Allison Kreft's, 'Composition and Color' line:

The template is my own design, and apart from the brushes and stitching (Katie Pertiet), everything is Webster's. I love the colours of this particular line. Allison Kreft also has another line, 'Sweet Notes', which is a little brighter, and which I was also tempted by....if I have time, I might do another with that line!

Anyway, head over to Webster's for some great inspiration and gorgeous goodies. Even if you don't have time to purchase the paper products, you could always buy the digital stickers and print them off to use.

Scrap Friends Colour Challenge #12

I've been really busy of late with study and assignments for uni, so thought I'd give myself a little break. Colour challenge #12 over at ScrapFriends was the perfect answer! Love this colour way:

And my version:

The background is explained below, but once I was satisfied with it, I used NeoColor II crayons (water soluble crayons which I just LOVE) that gave the yellow background.

And a few close-ups:

This layout turned out nothing like I had planned. What I initially did was this:

As you can see, I started with a dark grey cardstock, then added rub-ons around a lightly drawn square before adding yellow paint. I then sprinkled on some orange zing embossing powder and heat set it before adding my light grey die-cut shape. I didn't like it at all. Way too heavy looking for me. So to my rescue yet again, came the gesso. After drying, I then sprayed various yellow mists over it. I still didn't like it, so applied gesso yet again which ended up giving a yellow tinge to the top layer of gesso. This was satisfactory, so went ahead and used this as my background as above.

Back to study for me.

Thankyou for coming by.

Paper Stories DT May Sketch

Another month has just flashed by, and now May is here with a fabulous new sketch challenge at Paper Stories.
The sketch:

I actually rotated the sketch this month to look like this:

And my interpretation:

For the background paper I used the camera paper from Amy Tangerine's 'Sketchbook' collection and painted it blue with Ecoline #506. I love the intensity of colour.
The additional papers were also from the Sketchbook collection as well as Kaisercraft and Crate Paper.
I reduced the size of my 3 photos in Photoshop then printed them on a scrap of white cardstock before adding them behind the film reel chipboard. The camera is a stamp from Amy Tangerine that I heat embossed with black powder before painting then cutting out.

I don't have many photos of myself with any of my children, let alone as a family unit, so attempted to take some. On one level, probably not very successful, but on another, shows us at this time, and I reckon this is good enough and has captured the moment, and that's what it's all about.

Thankyou for looking.

I hope to see your layout soon at Paper Stories!
